Preparing for Congress

How can I make sure I am prepared for Congress?

By reading the pre-Congress Reflections and answering the reflection questions. All of the reflections are available on the Congress website

What clothing should I pack?

Comfortable, casual clothing is recommended during the day for Saturday and Sunday. For the Congress dinner on Saturday evening you may
wish to dress more formally.

If you would like to take the option of walking between your accommodation and the Congress venue (approximately 15-20 minutes), you might
wish to pack comfortable shoes.

Adelaide in October typically enjoys warm days (around 18-22 degrees) and cool evenings (around 10-12 degrees).

Do I need to bring any food or snacks?

All meals are provided throughout the weekend and are an integral part of Congress, all participants are expected to dine together.

Unfortunately, due to numbers, partners and spouses accompanying you to Adelaide will not be able to participate in Congress or meals.

Please ensure that you have advised of any special dietary requirements prior to the event.

Arriving at Congress

What should I do when I arrive at Adelaide airport?

Most Congress attendees will be flying to Adelaide Airport on Friday 6 October.

Once you have landed and collected your bags, please make your way to the ‘Vinnies’ stall in the arrivals hall. Any time from 9am, you will be greeted by a Society member or volunteer and driven to the Stamford Plaza where you will be able to check in.

If you would prefer to make your own way to the Stamford Plaza or to St Aloysius College, you may wish to take a taxi from the front of the
airport.

Where will I be staying?

You have been booked into the Stamford Plaza Hotel, 150 North Terrace, Adelaide. There will be people from the Society at the hotel to greet you and you will be marked off as having arrived and given instructions on how to get to the College on Angas Street.

There will also be a map located at the front of the hotel with the instructions on how to get to the College.

You will receive email confirmation of your booking. If you do not receive this information, please email congress2017@svdp.org.au to let us
know.

Please be aware that the Society will not be paying additional expenses such as mini bar, room service, or alcohol.

How do I get to and from the Congress venue?

From Adelaide airport to the Stamford Plaza

Between the Stamford Plaza and St Aloysius College (the Congress venue)
Option 1: The Stamford Plaza is an easy 15-20 minute walk from St Aloysius College.

Option 2: Catch a free tram (no ticket required). These run approximately every 15 minutes with the stop less than a few hundred meters from the Stamford Plaza on North Terrace. As you exit the hotel, turn left and walk west on North Terrace. The tram stop is outside the Adelaide Railway Station. Catch the tram heading east on North Terrace (tram to Glenelg). Disembark the tram at Victoria Square (outside the Hilton Hotel). From Victoria Square, it is an easy 5 minute walk along Angus Street to St Aloysius College.

To return to the Stamford Plaza, you can catch the tram at Victoria Square and it will take you back to the Stamford Plaza.

When should I arrive at the Congress venue on Friday evening?

Please ensure that you arrive at the Congress venue (St Aloysius College) by 5:00pm to allow time for you to register, receive your Congress t-shirt, lanyard, map and welcome pack. We expect that attendees on later flights will need to register closer to 6:00pm, If you arrive earlier there will be an optional activity at 3:00pm at St Aloysius College.
